Instructions that point at something real
Nothing about the site you visit changed in this release. Participant export and deletion stay unavailable, and the health page's storage warning is still deliberately visible. This note is about the project's own bookkeeping, and about the email address on the contact page. Two sessions ago the project's notes recorded an instruction for a change that has to be made by a person rather than by the tools: tightening a setting that tells other mail servers how strictly to treat messages claiming to come from this domain. The note said a script had been prepared and even described how it would behave. No such script had been written. It was specific enough to be believed, which is what made it worth fixing rather than quietly dropping. That script now exists. It shows the change before making it, does nothing unless explicitly told to, refuses if the setting has moved since it was read, and changes only the one value it is meant to change, leaving the reporting address that makes the whole thing observable exactly as it was. A check now also makes sure the project's notes cannot again point at a tool that is not there. The second remaining email step is being able to reply from the project's address rather than a personal one. Writing out the exact settings for that turned up the real reason it has been stuck. The system that stores the project's credentials reported that lane as ready, and ready has always meant only that a value is present, not that the value works. Two of them were placeholders left over from setup. Anyone following that report would have configured the mail client with a username that cannot sign in, while everything on screen said it was fine. There is now a separate check for the difference between present and usable, it runs with the project's routine health checks, and the finding has been sent to the team that owns the shared credential store. It only complains when something claims to be ready over a value that cannot work; a lane that is honestly not set up yet is left alone, because that is a true thing to say.
